The Campaign to Break the Silence

[back to home]

The Campaign to Break the Silence is a loose network of more than 1200 US Jews, including more than 120 rabbis, who have agreed on a statement about making peace between Israel and an emerging Palestinian state.

The Campaign's name comes from a growing sense that a majority of US Jews have remained silent for the last several years about their commitment to encouraging the Israeli-Palestinian peace process to go forward -- and that now the crucial moment has come to raise their voices.

The steering committee is composed of Cherie Brown, director of the National Coalition Building Institute; Rabbi Mordechai Liebling, senior consultant to (and former executive director of) the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation; and Rabbi Arthur Waskow, director of The Shalom Center.

The majority of their work entails raising funds to publish advertisements articulating their perspective. Much of those statements can be read at this page maintained by the Shalom Center.
